Kaptai Lake is the largest lake in Bangladesh. The Kaptai Lake's average depth is 100 feet (30 m) and maximum depth is 490 feet (150 m). The lake was created as a result of building the Kaptai Dam on the Karnaphuli River, as part of the Karnaphuli Hydro-electric project.
Kaptai Upazila is famous for unique hilly areas, riverside lake, and eye-catching green environment. Kaptai Lake is the largest artificial lake in South Asia with up to 11,000 sq km area. It is fascinating with small hills, sculpted mountain roads, waterfalls and greenhouses near water.
There are numerous types of plants and animals in the hills, and many species of endangered fish and endless biodiversity in the lake. The environment around the lake, the small islands, the many birds and water-centric indigenous community will keep you fascinated every moment.
